The few pianos I have serviced, (all were Steinways), that had been completely re-manufactured by them (soundboard, action, refinishing), I found their work to be excellent. I found the bass section especially nice, with a deep clear fundamental tone and good sustain. I believe they do not use Mapes strings as does Steinway factory. During a factory tour of Steinway recently, I ran into a tech from Faust who said they are using a Canadian supplier (sorry can't remember the name) for their bass strings and I think he mentioned that they also do some re-scaling of the bass. On the downside, he also mentioned they use the regular maple APSCO pinblock material, although I have not noticed any problems associated with its use, at least in the short term. I think the oldest one I have serviced is 5 years old.
