John,

The only thought that comes to my mind is that since it's

"the primary cultural resource for the campus and local community and
promotes the appearance of professional companies on subscription series,
by hosting many of Long Island's major performing arts organizations,"

maybe the orchestra(s) in the area want 442, as does the Houston Symphony
here and they don't want the hassle of retuning and stabilizing frequently.

Just a thought.
