Never be reluctant to ask for anything you need.  Just explain the whys
and where fors including the if nots.  Let them tell you what their
priorities are.  If they want them to work you have to say, "I
absolutely require {this} if you want me to meet _your_ goals as defined
by the job description.  Get a copy of your job description from
personnel, and wave it in their face.  If they want other priorities
then have them written into the job description.

If they want it (your job is to make them want it) they will pay for it
and to hell with the budget.  There is always discretionary funds there.

Some things are worth fighting for, doing your job properly is one of
those things.

026  KEYBOARD SPECIALIST
     (NE - 37 1/2 hour work week)
     Salary Range 20  $21852 - $29506
     Retirement System PERS

     Reporting to the director of the Music Department, is re-
     sponsible for diagnosing, servicing, maintaining keyboard
     instruments such as pianos, harpsichords and fortepiano,
     used by the Music Department.  Diagnoses problems and re-
     builds keyboard instruments as necessary.  Consults with and
     advises departmental members concerning the acquisition and
     care of instrument inventory.  Reports on instrument prob-
     lems and works with vendors as necessary.  Assists staff in
     proper use and maintenance of new instruments.  Works close-
     ly with visiting and world class performing artists on the
     preparation and adjustment of instruments prior to a con-
     cert.

     Requires demonstrated proficiency in the repair, construc-
     tion and maintenance of keyboard instruments.  Craftsman
     level membership in The Piano Technicians Guild is required. 
     Extensive experience in dealing with historical instruments
     and knowledge of all major pianos are required.  Tuning
     Examiner certification and teaching experience in piano
     technology are highly preferred.
