There's a picture of the 275 on the front cover of the April 2002 PT Journal as well, if anyone else is interested. The 168 (cm) is a particularily strange duck, with it's bass bridge sitting out in the middle of the soundboard (quite argueably where it belongs), yielding a rim-shape that is almost a full semi-circle (very little bow). The instrument sounds nice, though I'm not sure if my eyes are ready to accept the shape. Have a link for their web page Richard? Any pictures of the 168? thanks, Mark -----Original Message----- From: caut-bounces@ptg.org [mailto:caut-bounces@ptg.org]On Behalf Of Richard Adkins Sent: Wednesday, December 11, 2002 2:15 PM To: caut@ptg.org Subject: Re: Euro- sustain (the new Steingraeber 275!) They have a website in German. There is a picture of the newish 275 concert grand. I was told a few years ago the largest piano they made was the 205. Anyhow the 275 exhibits a very wide tail/and the board looks very wide, too...not much crook there. Maybe they've been looking at old Chickerings at the Liszt museum? The 205 does not particularly look wide to me from the pics at the site. The pianos were sleek, and had very clear tone. They played very well, too. But what pianos do not play well at one of our PTG conventions? I did not notice the sound board area, but did have a good look at the hammers, which were closer to looking like a triangle than Steinway's "gothic" shape. I'm not sure this has anything to do with the sustain, though. I've been inclined to try shaping some hammers that radically to find out! I appreciated their case designs. For a small shop they do wonderfully meticulous work. Very seriously build a neat tone, very enjoyable instruments always, for the few I've tuned actually.
