Specialization: Piano Technician License/certification: Registered Tuner/Technician with the Piano Technicians Guild, Inc. Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience: A minimum of three years experience as a piano technician in an institutional setting: experience tuning, repairing, maintaining and moving pianos required. Concert tuning experience at the highest level required. Highly developed interpersonal skills to work effectively with faculty, staff, students and artists. Demonstrated ability to supervise staff, the administrative affairs of a piano shop (record keeping, budgets, inventory, etc), programs and projects. Teaching experience required. Principal duties: Work collaboratively with the Director and Piano Area Faculty in managing the piano resources of the School of Music: 180 pianos including one Bosendorfer Imperial, ten Steinway Ds (six American and four Hamburg), fourteen Steinway Bs, and one 7 ft. Yamaha Dislavier. Manage the Piano Shop including all phases of tuning, voicing, regulating, repairing and rebuilding pianos; hiring, training, and supervising students; hiring and supervising contract tuners; researching and recommending capital purchases; maintaining inventory files; and record-keeping. Maintain effective communications with faculty regarding condition of pianos and maintenance. On occassion, work irregular hours to ensure that pianos are ready for concerts.
