Some time before xmas, the university that I do contract work for let me know that their budget was slashed about 50% for the music department. I went from 9 hours a month (minimal already) to "we'll just have to call you as needed." I don't expect to hear from them until August, unless the piano faculty screams loud enough..... Maybe spring recitals, or a guest artist will get them to tune again... Somehow it seems that in boom times, the arts are the last to get any trickle-down, yet when times get rough, they're the first to be chopped. But, I did pick up another school district, raised my rates (hardly anyone blinked) closer to the top for this area, and am just getting back up to speed after the holidays. I think it has more to do with how I treat people, than how I tune.
