Steinway B buzz

Bill Maxim mentioned a bizz in a Steinway B. A few people mentioned some
possibilities. Another possibility not mentioned is that one of the string
tails might be just barely touching one of the rear duplex bars.

I was called in on a similar situation with a brand new Steinway a few
years ago - either an M or an L - I don't rember now. It was giving the
dealer's technician a fit. He had put a felt wedge between one of the
beams and a soundboard rib as a temporary fix. I found the problem, which
turned out to be one of the string tails at the very low end of the rear
duplex that was barely touching one of the duplex bars that it was not
supposed to touch, and buzzing against it. One did not have to play that
note to make it buzz. It did it on several different notes. Small item,
big noise, easy to fix, after I found it.
