A technician friend of mine recently told me a story about a restaurant chain owner (I think around the DC area) which bought a bunch of new Yamaha P22s for his restaurants, and then asked him to put thumbtacks in all the hammers. Said he wanted that "saloon piano" sound. My friend had never heard of it, but did it anyway. Said, for what it was, the pianos actually sounded pretty good with those thumbtacks. Wasn't long, however, before the thumbtacks were falling out of the hammers, getting caught between and binding up the action parts, and wallowing out action centers in brand new pianos. Just food for thought. Jeff PS. Yeah, I'm thinking the "Rinky-Tink" is probably the much smarter way to go. Or, that '69 Everett studio downstairs in room 014....
