This is a multi-part message in MIME format. ---------------------- multipart/alternative attachment Metric wire sizes aren't exactly the same as imperial... (somewhere I have a comparsion chart Ted Sambell gave me), so I'd measure them anyhow. Using the scale Avery sent as a guide, drop string-tension a 1/2 turn or so at the beginning of every section. (often you can "see" the guage changes by looking closely unison by unison) With your string hook in one hand and micrometer in the other, lift each (slack) string and make your reading. It is very quick... and then you'll know. best regards, Mark Cramer, Brandon University -----Original Message----- From: caut-bounces@ptg.org [mailto:caut-bounces@ptg.org]On Behalf Of Jeff Olson Sent: Tuesday, August 02, 2005 1:40 PM To: College and University Technicians Subject: Re: [CAUT] G3 Yamaha Stringing Scale Thanks, guys -- I appreciate the input! What I'll do if the gauges aren't marked on the bridge is take a few confirming measurements (per Willem's suggestion) and then, if it matches the scale sent by Avery (much thanks, Avery!), I'll proceed full speed ahead. The Yamaha is 1971, so I'm optimistic it will match. A number of years ago I had to order a set of bass strings for a brand new Yamaha, and twice they sent me the wrong set. Come to find out that Yamaha changed the scale on that model, even though the model number was the same.
