Ken, Here's an odd occasional source of clicks: Sometimes if the jack rest regulating button screw threads are a bit loose in the jack, on a hard blow the inertia of the jack will cause the screw to move a thousanth or two when the jack stops its escapement stroke, causing a surprisingly loud click. Removing the screw and inserting a piece of dental floss in the hole with the screw will tighten the threads just enough to stop the noise.
