My experience with the NASM review is much the same as others who have
posted on this subject. My Dean wanted the report to reflect our
progress with the inventory and that was about it. This appears to be
pretty standard throughout the schools. Next year will be the third NASM
accreditation experience for me. Yikes! How time flies.

I agree that we need to accomplish some sort of recognition from NASM
but it is not going to be easy. The CAUT Committee has tried several
times to present at the NASM convention. This goes back at about 15
years. The struggle continues however but with a different tact. For now
we are not trying direct contact with NASM. When we have all our ducks
in a row we will try again. The suggestions posted by Fred and others
are good starts towards the goal. The CAUT Committee needs to hash this
out further. All input welcome.

One of our strategies to gain a wider voice in academia is to attend the
College Music Society Conference each year. CMS is very happy to have us
exhibit. Bill Shull, Peter Clark and Jim Coleman Jr. had a busy booth in
San Francisco last year. This year we will be in Quebec City for the
conference. Also, for the first time at CMS a piano technician (yours
truly, assisted by Paul Kupelian) will be presenting at CMS. This
continued presence at CMS will gain some much needed visibility for PTG
and help to realize the goals of the CAUT Committee. The ultimate goal
is too have NASM accept our suggestions and include them into their
accreditation process. If we cannot go in the front door of NASM perhaps
we can go through the side door.
