[CAUT] pin block strangeness

I have seen many Asian pianos with poor flange fitting and plate
bushings that hold their tune just fine.  With plate bushings, the
string force bears against the plate via the plate bushings.  That being
said, I always fit the flange even when the piano has plate bushings.

Really?! I have always been taught that pin block fit to the flange is
crucial. Am I way out of the loop here?
