Leads get loose and click or travel out of their hole to bind against other things. They also swell in damp environments. Also, that much weight in the damper tray would likely require redesigned stronger flanges or hinges. It's just another set of problems to trade off. Perhaps a better spring with a sealed bearing roller at the working end? Perhaps this is a useful place for magnets? Joseph D. Why couldn't we eliminate the spring and use key leads inserted into, for instance the damper lifter tray, pedal levers...places where springs are used to return parts...?
