They have completely redone the action manufacturing facility, with brand new machinery. I understand they (NYC) now supply Hamburg with action parts. The Renner period was definitely needed, as the action machinery at that time was badly worn and out of spec. The parts produced today are very nice, IMO. Hammers have been improving in recent years, too, with lots of new, fancy laser guided equipment (felt centered over the molding, WOW! <g>). And, as I think Rick Florence wrote, Steinway owns Kluge now, as well as Kelly plate. As soon as they buy up Mapes, there will be entirely genuine Steinways again <G>.
