Hello all, I'm in Banff for the next 10 days or so and have an older action rail to re-core. This is a first-timer for me, and a somewhat confidential process at Steinway, so if I spell out my plan of attack, perhaps those of you with some (happy, memorable, succesful ;>) experience at this could shed some light on the process for me? 1.) I noticed at the factory they keep the new cores (maple doweling) in a heated cannister, presumeably to shrink the diam. for an easier initial fit? (I intend to leave it in an ABS pipe with a 25w 4' Dampp- Chaser dehumidifer bar overnight) 2.) I'm guessing the same will need to be done to remove the old core? (I plan on gutting the rails and putting the stack in our hot-box overnight. I've also considered using a counter- sink bit to clean any wood sticking up through the screw- holes to make it easier to drive the old core out) Any other hints for getting the old core out? 3.) I intend to install the new core (maple dowel) with the grain at right angles to the screwholes, unless there is some unknown reason to do otherwise? 4.) Any other sage wisdom? thanks!
