Otto, I've gotten really good with my shank splicing! You know, the jig that helps you cut at a diagonal and end with a perfect splice, held by the right sized straw (temp). THAT might be where the Gorilla glue would be good. Thanks for the tip of the shears. It works swell. Never really tried it with gorilla glue, but worked for really stubborn other stuff. Sometimes an initial crunch fore & aft will loosen the end grain of the hammer moulding a bit to minimize the tendencey to split the shank.
