[CAUT] update on Baldwin D/Wapin

Hi all,

I've re-discovered some great voicing techniques on these new
Ronsen-Wurzen hammers that have opened up the Baldwin we wapinaized
recently!!!

With a few simple stabs, fairly deep in the middle only! (3-4mm) one at 11
and the other at 1 and then again at 10 and 2 the sound began to open up!!
Then, with the extreme edges stabbing at bit more conservatively (ala
Rick B). the sound has really opened up, cancelling my previous opinion
that the soundboard was shot! All (98%) of the false-beats (due, I
beleive to Wapin) are gone with endless (so to speak) sustain!! The Wapin
really helped with the false beats and sustain (for all you who don't
beleive it works...try it you'l like it!) When I'm finished, this is
going to be a great piano. it's getting used a lot in the next two weeks,
so I won't go further, but will continue improving the grand old dame next
year!! I'll spray-laquer over the top of a portion(since I soaked the
undersides and shoulders) on the middle and then "mellow out" the nasty
bright ones, but I think the end result will be totally worth the effort
of rebuilding the action, installing Wapin and putting on these
Ronsen-Wurzen hammers. I'll still add a bit more to the lower and bass to
bring out the "sizzle" everyone wants here. It really helped the
notorious killer areas in octaves 5-6. It keeps up with the rest of the
piano!! I'll admit, that is still a Baldwin (I must admit I've never been
a fan) and maybe won't ever compete with the Steinway D here, but I've
really got that one to sing in the way I want!

BTW, I don't understand why so many of you said the Ronsen-Wurzen's would
take so little effort to make this piano sing? I guess I got the soft
pack!! I guess it took all these efforts to make the piano great again.
Please don't shame Wapin or Ronsen. They're great efforts..both of them.
try them both! Maybe this is one of the first with both? I don't know!
it works!

Best,

Paul
