Hi Eric,

What catches me is when the reporter says you tap each string until you get it just right. Is there a tuning technique there that you want to share with the list???

Don,

What I actually said was "I'll be working on THESE pianos the rest of my life." Of course, that would have been true of the OLD pianos as well if we hadn't swung this deal. I didn't get to hear the broadcast because I was chasing the piano movers around with a clipboard but for those interested it can be heard by following this link:

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=98133477

We receive 21 more pianos next week which makes for a total of 73 (mostly Steinway grands) so far. For the most part, all have been very well prepped and musically voiced, especially the larger grands. Everything has been at least up to pitch and still sounding decent after a week. We've gotten 8 1098's and I'm very happy with them. They are well-voiced, regulated and pretty much in tune...I haven't tuned one personally yet but haven't heard any complaints from my assistants.

One amazing side effect of this purchase is that we're getting 165 new benches! Everything except the Boston uprights are coming with Jansen artist benches.

You all should see the pile of warranty packets I'm accumulating.

Eric

Something "Caut" my eye in your post, Fred:

"The rest of my life working on new pianos?" Seems to me that 15 years
from now he will be working on 15 year old pianos . . . .

My son told me last night on NPR news he heard the piano technician from
CCM talking about the all Steinway purchase, describing the arrival of
27 pianos a couple weeks ago and saying he was excited that he'd be
spending the rest of his life working on new pianos. I haven't had time
yet to search it and listen myself, but congratulations, Eric, you're a
star!
