There was an early vintage of Wurlitzer grands that used a strip of felt as a cushion between the front rail and the key bed.  This was woven cloth of the type used on back rails etc.  The key frame was mortised to receive this felt.  The kick is finding a replacement of the proper thickness.  Last time I encountered this I glued in a strip of wood and fitted it to the rail in the usual manner.  The reason to replace it came as a result of insect infestation and precious little cloth remaining.  Just to let you know there is weird stuff out there.
