I have before me a piano that suffers the dual curse of having been Frankenstein-ed (with parts from other brands of pianos!), and with atrocious craftsmanship, no less. There are two different serial numbers that each appear more than once in various locations on this poor beast. One s/n dates it at 1922, the other 1957, all of which MAY be immaterial. The only Baldwin Service Manual I have lists the SF10 action spread as 4 31/64" (which, if I have converted correctly is around 113.9mm). The present instrument clearly predates the "SF10" generation, and currently has an action spread of around 111.5mm. Increasing the action spread would yield a straighter line between the distal surfaces of the jack and knuckle core, but the jacks are already bottoming out in the repetition lever window with the current, shorter spread and 10mm of key dip (which is slightly less than Baldwins relatively recent spec. of .400", or about 10.2mm).
