And now we have this new little wrinkle in the great temperament debate. In Anne Beetem Acker's review of the new book on fortepiano writing (August 09 PTJ) the Schiedmayer's write a description on how to tune equal temperament in 1824. Of course equal temperament was around but here is proof that some folks preferred it. It is telling though that they go on to state if equal cannot be achieved then you must favor some keys over others. Let the debate continue!
