[CAUT] damper touch weight - head-weight preference?

I think my point was in wondering whether there could be some 
theoretical down-sides to the benefits, as well as how commonly this 
concept was being exploited, either by manufacturers or rebuilders, 
and to what extent (such as moving the entire leading process to the 
heads).  That's what I was asking in the second part of my post:
