I also remember an older tuner's approach that was easy to undo. He would use spray starch on hammers, giving them a passing spray over about one octave at a time. He made sure the action was well covered, sprayed the entire surface of the shoulders and strike point, and immediately used a hot iron over the skin. It was a surprisingly nice sound that came out. It had a lot more strength, attack, and body. I haven't done it, but I remember being impressed with the results, and it only takes a light filing to remove. Regards, Ed Foote RPT http://www.uk-piano.org/edfoote/index.html If not, anyone have any experience with using acetone or denatured alcohol (ethyl/methyl alcohol mixture) to dilute collodion (which - from what I see on some websites - is theoretically possible)? Any other ideas? -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL: <http://ptg.org/pipermail/caut.php/attachments/20100726/527a0a1a/attachment-0001.htm>
