Heavy handed pianists just go with the territory. I've heard Mussorsky, Prokofiev, Chopin Beethoven and other composers hammered out with such ferocity as to snap strings. You simply can't go in and dictate how a pianist should play. In Kirchoff's case that's how he interprets the music he is choosing to play. If you feel that somebody is damaging the piano then suggest they not be invited back. Otherwise, suck it up and deal with it. That's part of the job.
