Re: [CAUT] Rebuilding a Yamaha without Yamaha action partsHi Shelly,

I have used Tokiwa action parts and Abel Special Press hammers from Pianotek in many pianos including Steinways, Bechsteins, and Mason & Hamlins. I have been extremely impressed with the results that I get from this combination. I have had people from Cincinnati Conservatory of Music play on one of the Bechsteins and tell me that they would rather play on it then on one of the new Steinways that CCM got. I also had an artist who has performed for Yamaha for Disclavier recordings and for Bechstein at their opening of their complex in New York tell me that the Mason & Hamlin CC with this combination was "fantastic" to play on and that the piano had "great tonal color". Their have been other artists that have played on some of the pianos that have this combination and I have yet to hear any negative response, only positive. I hope that this helps.

God bless

Thank you so much for the info about Collodion!

I have a question regarding rebuilding a Yamaha C5 action circa 1980. This piano is in a small performance hall. It is time to replace all of the action parts. The piano is always ‘miked’.
Has anyone used parts and hammers not from Yamaha to success in this situation? I really don’t relish paying those high costs and needling until I need physical therapy! Are there parts and hammers that are particularly recommended by those of you who have a broader experience than I?
For home use I have used the Renner blues, the best Ronson’s of 4 years ago, and the Encore Wurtzen from Wally Brooks to great success. What about in a hall?
Wippens?

Your input would be greatly appreciated.

Shelley
