Paul, There were only two strings on my Martin that kept breaking. That’s all we had to re-scale with the harder wire. Definitely not random! After reading what has been written about transposition I went “Duh!” because I had a student who tried to tune the Martin to A440 while it was in a transposed position (A415). Snap, crackle, pop… Yeah, it will definitely pop strings if you do that! My bad. I should have remembered that. Let us know if that is the case though. I'm learning more and more by force <G> Perhaps a complete restringing with steel and a lighter guage might be in order, but when to do it is a real challenge!
