Paul, Anyway Feltsman asked for it to be a bit brighter in the mid to upper treble.I had already reshaped the top two section to get a bit more focus, butI wasn’t about to add any juice. Not that these hammers would take anymore juice anyway. But I did pound those hammers a bit with the back endof my weighted voicer. It brought it up a tad. I have been wondering if he actually went out into the hall to listen.This is a 1700 seat hall with great acoustics (a wonderfully restored artdeco hall). I was sitting in the loge, though there is not a bad seat inthe house. So I wondered if he was concerned about cutting through theorchestra so that he could hear himself, or whether he was worried aboutbeing heard through the orchestra out in the hall (no problem with thatpiano in that hall). Hi Paul, Mr Feltsman has come and gone. He plays too hard for my taste, but he didn’tbreak any strings. His Brahms 2nd was a powerful, but not a sensitive interpretation.He was here a few years ago and I would say the same thing about his Tchaikovsky2nd. Listening to that concert from the second row I wondered if the pianowould be left in a heap of rubble after he was done (lesson learned fromthat one - never again sit so close to the piano for a piano concerto).I wouldn’t characterize it as abusive; just hard and heavy playing. Helikes a bright piano and he likes a low sitting position. We had a spareset of legs, which I shortened by one inch for him. Feltzman is at Lied next week,using all 3 of their grands...Two B's and the D over there for master classes,practice and performance. There is also the student grad and undergradconcerto competitions happening Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday-using 2 pianostuned together each night. My favorite DMA student has a performanceTuesday eve on this new Steinway project, the same night as Feltzman. I'mnot freaking out over one piano, but 6. So, I'm not stressing out aboutjust one performance! You can understand the pressure, I'm sure.It's not as bad as our Liszt Fest last spring with our central west regionalconference was happening and to top it all off, my father in law passingaway all the same week, but it's close. This kind of stuff happensabout twice per year. The rest of the time, I'm pretty laid backand unstressed.
