Paul-

For a start, measure the lengths of the Cs on the Tyre, and compare them to the other instruments.
This might provide an important insight!

Subject: [CAUT] scaling a Tyre harpsichord?

  Hi All,

How does one determine a scaling design for an older Tyre harpsichord? I'm considering restringing ours this summer, but have no data on how the scaling is.

I'm tired of replacing strings all the time on this one, and perhaps it's a bit too over-sized in wire. None of the other harpsichords have this problem in the same building/environment, so something is dreadfully wrong with this one. Perhaps it's just tired wire??? It says it was built in 1990, so that seems a bit strange to have all the strings break top to bottom in a sparatic fashion.

Anything else I should look at? I posted this a month or so ago with a picture or two....It's going to get used a bunch this semester is why I'm asking again.

  Thanks!
