<<BTW, have any of you ever run across Dampp-Chasers installed *under* the pinblock in grands? Arrrrgh!>> Here, we have an RH_Always_above 50%, so yes, I routinely put a 15 watt Damp-chaser under the pinblock. I've never had a problem because of this. On the contrary, its the only way to keep pianos from "freezing" up here. We also recommend a string cover kept on as much as possible. For uprights we don't use Humidistats, we just install the 25 watt damp-chasers. It's a real problem for me getting churches and schools to monitor whether or not the unit gets plugged in or not. It will most certainly change the tuning!! Typically, if the unit has been unplugged more than a couple of days, the middle will be up to 8 cents sharp. I now have the dilemma of, "to tune , or not to tune?". If I plug in the unit and reschedule for a week later, things are right back where they should be and my job is easy. If, against my advice, the customer insists an a tuning right then, my job is difficult, and as soon as they plug the unit back in the tuning is destroyed!!. Anybody have suggestions or solutions?
