Ron,

There is a tool to tie strings.  I used it  when I was in training.  I think it
can be found in most of the piano supply catalogs.  The tool clamps into a bench
vise, the wire is threaded through it and clamped and then the operator turns
the crank.  It takes a few tries to get the hang of it; but, with enough
practice, lovely results can be had.   There may be a difference in quality,
depending on where you order it from--the usual problem.  I'd look it up and
tell you what catalog and page, but I'm at home and my catalogs are in my office
at school.
