I would like to announce a job opening for an assistant piano
tuner/technician at the University of Michigan:

Assistant Piano Technician, Salary Grade 15--Min/Max $20,000/47,060
University of Michigan School of Music
Job Posting Number: T-95-0929-BB

DUTIES:  Periodic and special tuning of concert, studio, and practice pianos;
manage daily repairs and maintenance of practice facility pianos; keyboard
action and damper action rebuilding; piano belly rebuilding to include
stringing and damper installation; complete fine regulation of grand piano
keyboards, including those for concerts and studios; assist Head Technician
in all areas.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  High School Diploma with technical training from a
recognized school of piano technology or college graduate with a Bachelor of
Arts in Music with courses in piano technology; Craftsman certificate from
the Piano Technicians Guild; ability to tune aurally using advanced
procedures and tuning checks.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:  Bachelor of Music in piano is highly desirable;
general music background desirable; experience in an institutional setting
with concert tuning, voicing, rebuilding and maintenance (such as work for a
conservatory of music or major music organization); supervisory experience
with students.
