You can bleach ivories with a fairly strong peroxide solution and ultraviolet light. To make a seamless joint, you have to have a perfect mechanical joint between head and tail, and both faces of the butt joint need to be perfectly vertical. This joint must be so tight that no glue cna get up between the pieces.
