Well, I would like to inform the trade that there is an alternative for high quality bass strings, and we do in fact rough up the core so extensively that it remains integral with the core, even when unwrapped beyond the swedge. Why do we still use a swedge? We haven't broken with traditional methods yet--and the strings with the finer windings of copper do need some help staying put at their ends. We are however, in the developmental stages of a newer version of the swedge which doesn't disrupt the core wire's sounding pattern as much as the current slamming flat for 2" method does. Core wire is very hard and making it into any pattern other than flat, is not easy. David Sanderson Sanderson Accu-Strings Littleton, MA
