Anyone who doubts the effect of an uneven set of hammer weights should e-mail a fax #. I'll send out the same set of graphs referred to in my original post "Bechstein Action-Hamm Weight". I've done many Stanwood actions, including one with with a capstan line move to correct leverage. A proper feeling action comes down to "tuning up" mass and leverage. Hammer and key front weights and wippen support springs tune up the mass, proper part selection with the ability to move a capstan line (and make the wippen heel follow it) tune up leverage. One hint on hammer weights: the width of these suckers doesn't need nearly the .45-.47" the hammer makers are handing us. One hint on leverage: stay away from Steinway's pre-84 parts and replace the teflon shanks whenever you can. Glorie LeFrak told me I'd need a set of pre-84 shanks to go on a 1927 M. I told her thank but no thanks, I'd much rather take responsibilty for an action for NY Impr shanks than the close-knuckle pre-84's. (Yup, Ken Sloane, you're hot on the trail.) I expect to add to Newton Hunt's remarks ("David's Stuff") over the weekend, Bill Ballard RPT "I'll play it, 'n tell you what it is later" NH Chapter Miles Davis.......... --------------------- Forwarded message: Subj: Re: Hamm Weight Specs Date: 95-01-06 08:29:31 EST From: Yardbird47 To: reevesj@byugate.byu.edu Anyone who doubts the effect of an uneven set of hammer weights should e-mail a fax #.
