David: I have a Sanderson magnetic pickup, but very seldom use it. In noisy situations it *is* a big help, allowing me to do a decent tuning but leaving the unsatisfying fact of not being able to hear and confirm the tuning myself. I don't use it unless I have to, because of the nuisance of an extra gizmo and wire in the piano. Other than that it is fairly easy to use. On both verticals and grands, it will often pick up all 88 notes from the one position on the plate between the bass and tenor. Other times it requires moving around to pick up certain partials (just as does the SAT's microphone) and that can be a bit of a hassle, especially on verticals where there are few places to stick it. Maybe you can find one locally to borrow for a few days. I suspect that if you have to tune in noisy places a few times a year it would be worth it. Bill Spurlock
