I was responding to Bob Davis' post where he said that friction is
necessary to fine tune.  That is true.  My point was that without
friction, but only pressure, you would never have the problem of the
piano going out of tune by a hard hit, because the tension would
always be rendered equal.  I know this is actually impossible, but if
we could separate friction out from pressure, we could still fine
tune.
