My response: Since these are copper wound bass strings, the overall diameter and weight can remain the same while increasing the core diameter by reducing the diameter of the copper wrap, the tension will be the same. The thicker core wire brings the percentage of breaking strength down, making the string harder to break. The string would also be less flexible which would tend to increase inharmonicity, but this might further reduce string breakage by reducing metal fatigue. Scott Scott E.
