an actual piano question

Don,
   One question regarding your comment that you didn't feel it necessary to
ream. What if you are jumping two sizes (2/0 to 4/0). In the past, I've
generally followed a policy of going to the next size pin if the old ones
feel fairly tight and jumping a size if they are fairly consistently loose.
   On an old block like one would find in an old upright, would not reaming
put too much stress on the wood and perhaps cause the block to start splitting?
   What are your ideas about this?
