GOOD GRIEF!!! Carol, get off your cotton pickin high horse and listen for a minute. First off, there's nothing wrong with being on a dealer's payroll. If you like working for a dealer, go for it. Some people like that kind of environment and they do very well with it. I've been an independent tech far longer than a dealer affiliated tech and I'm still quite familiar with the Disklavier, in fact so much so that the factory prefers to use me over the local dealer tech to handle the Disklavier calls in this area. Parts are expensive to stock. They become outdated and end up being dead weight. I don't stock any parts for Disklavier specifically except a few specialized tools that I've never used. If I need the parts, I'll order them. As far as a dealer selling with out the service to back up the sale, that's contrary to the basic flavor of your post. Regarding no dealers to sell pianos and then none of us having any work ever, get real. There will always be, in our lifetimes, someone selling pianos somewhere, someone needing piano service somewhere. I strongly urge you to email me privately regarding this matter. This thread is taking up valuable space on this list and involves a private matter regarding a party that has requested service by someone other than the dealer tech(s) in the area. I asked for technicians in that area to respond, keeping my post as short as possible so as not to take up all this bandwidth with private issues. If you'd care to attack me privately regarding my stance on dealer techs, I think you'll find my response to be totally off from what you're thinking. Instead, you might find me commenting on the aggresive tendencies of certain parts of the country and the tensions it causes. Jordan Kitts is no slouch. It takes an aggresive business man to build the "empire" he's got. I'm glad you've found your notch with him for the last 9 years. May you have another 9 years of piano service bliss with him.
