If the old stlye jack rest felt is noisey, the jacks have compressed the felt and the jacks are also too far back under the knuckle (grand roller). Fluffing-up the felt is temporary, so replacement is best. I have retro-fitted a button and spoon with success, but now would just replace since the springs are old (may break), drop screw buckskins and wippen cushions are hard and the center pins need replacing anyways. Part of that noise may be due to hard knuckles too. Jon Page Cape Cod.
