You might try an interim procedure. Detime the dampers but making 1/3 a tiny bit slower, leave 1/3 the same and 1/3 a tiny bit faster. Alternate the changes. This is don in recording studios to help with this problem. The ineffective bass dampers can be solved with good new felts. The real solution is to replace the damper felts completely. I know this is not what you wanted to hear, but dampers are tricky at best and a nightmare at worst, but solutions are out there. Newton nhunt@rci.rutgers.edu
