Gordon;
 By all means replace ! Get rid of those old junky worn out Steinways and buy
new ones ! (by the way we will pay the school $150.00 each for the old
instruments).
  Seriously Gordon if you have the capability, or know someone who rebuilds
well, the best thing to do is to rebuild the grands.
 You can get two, or possibly three, of the Steinways rebuilt for the cost of
one new one and if the work is well done you will be much better off. You
might consider just rebuilding the insides and not refinishing the cases,
using the funds saved thusly to purchase new verticals.
 The important thing here Gordon is to have someone do the work that you can
trust to do a good job. After all your reputation at the school rides on your
recommendations.
Just my opinion.
