James Shanahan inquired as to quality in 1098's, I've been wating for a spare minute to proffer an opinion -- I think they sound wonderful. Worked on 2 new ones recently and they needed to be gone through -- set up damper timing, hammer rail block felt, couple of other minor misc. Are you a tech? These things are not out of the ordinary. First tunings on these usually involve extra attention -- bringing pitch either up or down does not stabilize quickly, maybe string segments being ornery. On a recent visit to the factory (for the damper seminar--great class!) we saw the newly separated upright department, they mentioned trying to improve quality control by not having upright stages blended in amongst all the grands parading through the departments. Hope this helps, Audrey Karabinus, Seattle
