Hi, Ed, No, after all, there is enough space to accommodate the other action parts in that location. The advantage of the flange is that it aligns the button hole with the screw. I have not had any trouble with tight screws breaking. I have broken a few because of improper alignment of the truning tool with the eye. I prefer to use the type of regulator that has to bottom of the hole cut away to make off alignment not a problem. Have a nice week.
