Authorized Steinway Techs-

Dear David,

It seems clear that you won't find an 'authorized tech' under the bushes
around your client's house. I suggest that you expand the notion of
'authorized' by adding a single word; "DEALER". This gives you the best
possible way to insure your client's warranty, your sanity, and preserve
world peace to boot.

Find the nearest Steinway Dealership in the Great State of Missoura
(...hey! That's the way I hear it from 'em out there!), and find out who's
doing their work, ok? You'll be able to give your customer a very comfortable
suggestion... and the phrase works well on paper, too.

" He's a Dealer Authorized Technician for the Steinway & Sons dealership
in..." ought to have enough 'bulge' to satisfy her concerns... and the
factory will stand behind the dealer's choice of techs. The warranty aspect
of the equation is covered by the fact that the DEALER uses this guy/girl
too. Your customer/client may have to foot a travel bill for servicing...
but, who knows?... mebbe there's a Steinway Dealership at the corner-store,
and the technician lives next door, eh?

ps-
I am a supporter of dealerships, as those who read last month's Journal
"Letters" have seen, and having dealership approval is important to my
(everybody's) business. I have the approval of most of the large dealerships
in the State of Orygun, and that backing is important to my customers, too.
Keeping aware of "what's new!?" or "who's got a new piano that needs tuning?"
is healthy for anybody's business. Knowing the salestaff and general attitude
of the stores in your area is helpful when you FINALLY convince the owner of
that 75-year old upright that spent; "... a few years in the garage a while
back"... to upgrade to a better new (or used!) piano.

Support your local dealerships. (...and they'll support you!). 'Nuff
Said?
