Today I heard on the radio about a really nasty scam. If you use a beeper, the perpetrators send a message to your beeper with a return number in the 809 area code. The problem is, that area code is in the Carribbean--outside the jurisdiction of the FCC. If you return the call, the minimum charge is $25. They put a sleazy message on the machine so you'll stay on the line--at a cost of about $2.00 or more a minute. If your beeper goes off and the area code is 809, be forewarned. You'll be billed plenty for returning the call. Colette Collier, RPT
