Dear list, Went to the Russian clients house with her Belarus this morning. Here is the short past history. First tuning pitch raise from -58c low on 3/14/96. Retuned 3/28/96, piano had not dropped at all so it got a normal tuning. When completed I suggested tuning again in 3 months which would have been late June or July. When I called back she said she would call me when she was ready. She finally called me back (March,97) I showed up today 4/3/97, the piano was 11.4c low Raised back to A-440 and suggested tuning again in 2 months after explaining reasons. She had had the mute strip repaired by someone else in the meantime and asked me to install it and she only had 2 out of 4 of the screws that hold it on. Although her sales receipt shows that it is a B-16 it measures 44" from the floor to the top of the lid and 1" less to the top of the pinblock which according to Ancotts book makes it a B-17 or B-18. There is no indication on the plate. Its' serial number is 734998 (you know they didn't start with #1) and the plate is mottled grey, no gold, in color. For those of you who keep track of these things the FAC numbers were 13.6, 5.8, 7.3 before pitch raising and 12.9, 5.9, 8.9 for the final (fine?) tuning. The treble was somewhat wild and had a good buzz on both wound strings , first note in middle section (D). Mechanicall everything seemed about how it was a year oe so ago. Doesn't tune bad but doesn't feel and sound good to play. Nothing else has fallen off in the mean time. James Grebe from St. Louis pianoman@inlink.com
