Joel may still be right, not that the hammers have been filed too much, but that the original bore is off. If the let-off buttons are high relative to the rail this can indicate a bore that is off. The only way to determine if the bore if off is to measure the string heights (at each section end) and to measure the height of the hammer center pin from the key bed. Subtract the least from the greater and you have the optimum bore distance from strike point to hole center. check it to be sure. The hammer rail could be too low. Try using a .040 punching under one hammer flange and regulate the note and see if there is a difference in feel or response of the key. Newton nhunt@jagat.com
