It would be best for this list if this topic were not discussed. Don Mannino RPT ---------- From: PDtek@aol.com Sent: Tuesday, August 26, 1997 10:20 PM To: pianotech@ptg.org Subject: Tuning Prices List; A couple of tuner friends and I were discussing the average tuning rates in our area and how no one had increased their fees in the last couple of years and that maybe it was about time we did. Of course there are a lot of factors involved in such a decision, with the quality of service not being the least of them. We can, however, observe that in any given area prices do not seem to vary to any great degree. We concluded that one way to help determine where we stood on the scale was to find out what was being charged elsewhere, which is the purpose for this post. If the discussion of specific figures is offensive to anyone, I apologize. It is also my understanding that guild members are not to discuss such things due to antitrust laws, but I may be wrong about that. The bottom line is that some phone calls could extract this information but this way would seem to be more efficient and get a larger input. In the Des Moines area where I operate, the going rate for a standard tuning averages $50. I would be most interested in tuning prices from my surrounding areas such as Omaha, Kansas City, Minneapolis and the Quad Cities. If anyone feels more comfortable replying privately, that's fine.
