Dave,

Many good comments and possible cures have been offered so I'd like to
add only one thing. It's something I learned while studying piano as an
adult: play the note and then relax. I believe it's from the Taubman
method. It doesn't take nearly as much effort to hold a key down as it
does to give it a firm blow. Next time you are tuning a piano, notice
how much effort you are giving to holding down the key after the note is
struck. My thinking is that if you are exerting yourself unnecessarily,
this will result in early fatigue and eventually pain. It's as if your
body is telling you there's a better, more effective way.
